Microsoft is investigating a widespread issue impacting users’ access to key services, including Outlook and Microsoft Teams, on Monday morning.
The company reported on X that the problem is affecting Exchange Online and certain features within Microsoft Teams, such as the calendar function. Both tools are heavily used by businesses for communication and scheduling.
DownDetector, a site that tracks tech outages, began receiving reports of the disruption around 8 a.m. ET. By 11 a.m. ET, thousands of users had reported issues, many of whom took to social media to voice their frustration.
One user posted, “Microsoft outages are completely derailing my workday. Guess I’ll have to switch to phone calls and handwriting for now.”
In response, Microsoft explained that the disruption was caused by a recent change and began rolling back the update. The company confirmed that a fix had been deployed to “approximately 90% of the affected environments,” and further recovery efforts were underway.
Previous Microsoft 365 Service Interruptions
This outage follows a similar incident on September 12, when users were unable to access their email or other Microsoft 365 services. The issue was resolved shortly after and traced back to a change made by a third-party ISP (Internet Service Provider). After the ISP reversed the change, services began to recover.
During that incident, over 24,000 users were affected, and the disruption peaked around 9 a.m. ET. Microsoft confirmed the issue had been resolved after the adjustments were made by the third-party ISP.
