Israel’s military confirmed airstrikes against Iran after a missile attack from Tehran. The operation targeted key Iranian military sites.
“Iran and its proxies have attacked Israel from seven fronts since October 7,” stated the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). “Israel has the right to defend itself as a sovereign nation.”
Israeli aircraft hit missile manufacturing sites linked to prior attacks. The strikes also targeted Iran’s aerial defense systems and surface-to-air missiles.
“The mission was successful,” the IDF reported, highlighting the effectiveness of the targeted operations.
U.S. Responds to Israeli Action
A senior U.S. official confirmed prior knowledge of Israel’s plan but stated the U.S. did not participate. National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett urged Iran to halt attacks on Israel to prevent escalation.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the strikes and continue to monitor the situation.
Explosions Rock Tehran and Syrian Military Sites
Iranian state media reported explosions in Tehran and Karaj, linked to Israeli strikes. Syrian military sites were also hit, with reports of intercepted missiles from Israel.
The attacks follow Iran’s October 1 missile barrage involving 180 missiles against Israel, many intercepted with U.S. support.
Growing Regional Conflict and International Concerns
Israel’s recent operations signal an expanded multi-front conflict involving Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq. The escalation raises concerns about broader regional conflict.
A senior U.S. official indicated Israel wants to end direct confrontations with Iran. However, the U.S. stands ready to support Israel if Iran retaliates.
Biden has discussed de-escalation with Israeli officials, urging caution to avoid civilian casualties. Experts warn that further U.S. involvement risks deeper entanglement in Middle Eastern conflicts.
In response to Iran’s attacks, the Biden administration imposed sanctions on Iran’s oil industry, targeting entities transporting petroleum in violation of sanctions.
