Ukraine secured the release of 150 fighters in a prisoner exchange with Russia on Wednesday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Telegram.
Zelenskyy shared footage of jubilant prisoners, many wrapped in Ukrainian flags, stepping off buses and reuniting with loved ones.
“For them and their families, this day means more than years of waiting,” Zelenskyy wrote, calling it “true happiness” to see them home and free.
Both Ukraine and Russia thanked the United Arab Emirates for facilitating the swap, recognizing its role in previous exchanges.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Ukraine’s international partners, particularly the UAE, for helping to bring Ukrainians home.
The UAE has mediated multiple prisoner exchanges, reinforcing its diplomatic influence in the conflict.
Russia’s defence ministry confirmed the return of its captured troops, stating that medical examinations were underway in Belarus.
Moscow acknowledged the UAE’s efforts, highlighting its role in facilitating the swap.
The exchange marks another step in the complex negotiations between the two nations, despite ongoing tensions.
