Trump criticized the Biden administration for its delay in addressing ISIS threats in the region.
Coordinated Attacks Against ISIS Fighters
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he had ordered airstrikes on ISIS targets in Somalia. These attacks marked the first military action in Somalia during his second term. The U.S. Africa Command conducted the strikes in coordination with Somalia’s government, aiming to eliminate key Islamic State operatives.
Pentagon Confirms Successful Strikes
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that Trump personally directed the airstrikes, which were carried out by the U.S. military. According to an initial Pentagon assessment, multiple ISIS operatives were killed. The Pentagon also stated that no civilians were harmed during the operation.
Trump posted on social media that the strikes targeted a senior ISIS planner and new recruits. He emphasized that the airstrikes destroyed enemy caves and killed numerous terrorists.
Trump Criticizes Previous Inaction
Trump criticized the Biden administration for not taking earlier action against ISIS targets in Somalia. “Our military has targeted this ISIS attack planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough. I did!” he wrote.
He also sent a direct warning to ISIS and other hostile groups: “WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!”
Unconfirmed Details on Key Target
Trump did not reveal the identity of the ISIS planner or confirm if they were among the dead. The White House has not yet responded to inquiries about the operation. Meanwhile, local media reported airstrikes in Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region, located in the country’s northeast.
