Brock Purdy threw for 260 yards and a touchdown as the San Francisco 49ers improved to 4-4 with a hard-fought victory over the Dallas Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 8.
Expected to be strong Super Bowl contenders at the start of the season, the 49ers have experienced a tumultuous journey. After struggling to unleash their high-powered offense due to injuries affecting their offensive line, receivers, and star running back Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco managed only six points in the first half and trailed 10-6 at halftime.
However, the tide turned in the third quarter when the 49ers erupted for 21 points, led by tight end George Kittle, while keeping Dallas scoreless. This surge gave San Francisco a commanding 27-10 lead that held until the final minutes of the game.
But the Cowboys weren’t finished yet. Dak Prescott, who had thrown two interceptions earlier in the game, connected on consecutive touchdown passes to CeeDee Lamb, narrowing the score to 30-24 with 3:32 left. After a defensive stop, Dallas had a chance to take the lead but failed to advance on their final possession, allowing San Francisco to secure the win.
Lamb shone for Dallas, finishing with 146 yards on 13 receptions, with Prescott targeting him 17 times out of 38 attempts. Kittle was also impressive for the 49ers, catching six passes for 128 yards and a touchdown on just seven targets. The 49ers showcased a balanced offense, rushing for 223 yards compared to Dallas’s 56, continuing the Cowboys’ struggles with their pass-heavy approach.
San Francisco will enjoy a bye week and will look to build momentum when they face Tampa Bay on November 10. Meanwhile, Dallas finds itself in a tough spot at 3-4, preparing for a crucial road game against Atlanta next week. Prescott has now become the first Cowboys quarterback since 1992 to throw multiple interceptions in three straight games.
