At its keynote presentation during CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Sony showcased a series of groundbreaking innovations spanning mobility, sports, and content creation, solidifying its position as a leader in technological advancements.
Afeela 1: The Future of Electric Mobility
One of the most anticipated reveals was the Afeela 1, the first electric vehicle (EV) developed by Sony Honda Mobility, a partnership formed in 2022. The concept car, which was first introduced two years ago, is now nearing market readiness.
With a starting price of $89,900 (€86,500), the Afeela 1 is available for reservation in California, with deliveries expected to begin in mid-2026.
The car features an impressive 800 trillion tera operations per second (TOPS) of computing power and is equipped with 40 advanced sensors to enhance both safety and convenience. According to Yasuhida Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility, “Afeela’s AI perception recognizes surroundings accurately, and its AI planner creates optimal driving plans.”
Innovations in Sports and Communication
Sony also revealed innovations aimed at revolutionizing communication in sports. The company introduced a coach headset, designed to improve efficiency and communication for teams. Powered by Horizon’s 5G network, this headset will make its debut during the 2025 National Football League (NFL) season, enhancing the coaching experience.
PXO AKIRA: Transforming Content Creation
In content creation, Sony unveiled PXO AKIRA, an advanced virtual production system that allows the filming of vehicles without requiring on-location shoots. The system employs robotic camera cranes, motion platforms, and LED displays to create dynamic, immersive environments.
According to Johnny Slow, CEO of Pixomondo, a Sony subsidiary, “This system spins 360 degrees, syncing in real-time with virtual environments displayed on LED screens, providing a realistic experience.”
Sony emphasized how PXO AKIRA can lower production costs, enhance safety, and offer new creative possibilities for filmmakers.
