Notre-Dame Cathedral will open its doors to the public after being closed since the April 2019 fire.
The fire caused significant damage, but authorities ruled out arson. Investigators believe it was caused by an electrical fault or a discarded cigarette.
French President Emmanuel Macron promised to rebuild the cathedral “more beautiful than ever.”
Donations, totaling more than $700 million, came from wealthy French families and people worldwide, helping fund the restoration.
Before the fire, Notre-Dame was known for its stunning architecture, symbolic decorations, and valuable relics. The cathedral, over 400 feet long, housed the Crown of Thorns, believed to be from Christ’s crucifixion.
Reopening events set for December
The cathedral will reopen on December 7 and 8, with the ceremony by invitation only.
Celebrations will start from December 7 to 15, with two “Magnificat” concerts concluding on December 17 and 18.
The events will continue until June 8, 2025, marking the day of Pentecost.
