Shannon Atkins arrest threats: Shannon Atkins, 46, was arrested in West Palm Beach for posting violent threats against former President Trump on Facebook. The FBI launched an investigation after receiving a tip, and Atkins faces charges related to the threats and drug possession. Authorities stress the seriousness of the case as federal review continues.
Social Media Posts Trigger Investigation
Police arrested Shannon Atkins, 46, from West Palm Beach, Florida, for allegedly posting threats against former President Donald Trump. The FBI received a tip on January 19 from a Florida resident who reported Atkins’ alarming Facebook posts. These posts referenced assassinated presidents and suggested violence against Trump.
One post read, “Bullets, please. Jesus save America.” Another stated, “I’ve been banned from X because I said I hope and pray someone kills him. We haven’t had an assassination in years.” West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo confirmed the posts, describing them as violent rhetoric and political extremism targeting the former president.
Details of the Arrest
Police stopped Atkins near his home on January 20, around 7 p.m. Officers found suspected cocaine in his pocket during the arrest. Atkins admitted writing the posts but claimed they were jokes.
Chief Araujo dismissed his explanation, emphasizing, “This is not a joke. These threats are serious and unacceptable.”
Authorities charged Atkins with making written or electronic threats to kill, harm, or commit terrorism. They also charged him with felony drug possession. Officers did not find weapons during the arrest, and it remains unclear if Atkins owns any firearms.
Ongoing Legal and Federal Review
Atkins remains in jail without bond as investigators continue their work. The Secret Service, notified of the case, will decide on federal charges.
Atkins previously owned a local bakery, now permanently closed, according to reports. He has not yet hired a lawyer, and the court has not announced his hearing date.
Chief Araujo highlighted the seriousness of the case, stating, “We must act decisively to address threats against public officials and maintain safety.”
