Trafford Centre bosses announced plans for Europe’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging hub. The project would create the continent’s most extensive super-fast charging network, located at one of Trafford Centre’s main entrances.
Features of the Proposed Development
The plan includes transforming the former petrol station near the Marks & Spencer store. The redevelopment would feature a Starbucks Drive-Thru, an ultra-rapid charging hub, a supercharger lounge, a car showroom, and a digital advertising screen with a vertical “living wall” of plants.
Matthew Anderson, development director at Trafford Centre managers Pradera Lateral, shared details about the project. He stated that the proposed site would host an additional 47 ultra-rapid 250kW chargers. This addition would bring the total number of chargers to 65, potentially making it Europe’s largest ultra-rapid EV charging park.
“We worked closely to design a project that complements Trafford Centre and the local area,” Anderson said. “The scheme prioritizes biodiversity, promotes sustainable travel, and aligns with forward-thinking urban design.”
Construction Timeline
If approved by Trafford’s planning team, construction is expected to begin in early 2025. The redevelopment reflects Trafford Centre’s commitment to environmental sustainability and enhanced accessibility for EV drivers.
