The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 win, preventing them from securing a historic third straight Super Bowl title.
Eagles Crush Chiefs
Kansas City entered their fifth Super Bowl in six years, aiming for an unprecedented three-peat. However, Philadelphia’s top-ranked defense overwhelmed them, sacking Patrick Mahomes six times and intercepting two passes.
This marks the Eagles’ second Super Bowl win, adding to their 2018 triumph. Despite limiting Saquon Barkley’s impact, the Chiefs couldn’t withstand Philadelphia’s relentless pressure.
Hurts Shines as Chiefs Struggle
Jalen Hurts silenced doubters with a stunning 46-yard touchdown pass, sealing the win and earning the game’s MVP award.
“I’ve used every experience as fuel,” Hurts said. “We weren’t ready last time, but now it’s our moment.”
Hurts avenged Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LVII loss to Kansas City by leading them to victory.
Donald Trump became the first sitting US president to attend the Super Bowl, while Taylor Swift cheered for her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Kansas City struggled early, managing just one first down in the first half. Hurts scored a “tush push” touchdown, followed by a Jake Elliott field goal. The Eagles’ defense then took over, leading to a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown by Cooper DeJean.
Mahomes, who had gone 298 passes without an interception, threw another near his end zone, gifting AJ Brown a touchdown. Philadelphia extended their lead with another field goal and a deep pass to DeVonta Smith for a touchdown.
Eagles fans mocked the Chiefs’ Tomahawk Chop chant as Kansas City risked a historic Super Bowl shutout. Mahomes avoided that fate by connecting with Xavier Worthy for a touchdown.
Despite late scores from DeAndre Hopkins and Worthy, the Chiefs couldn’t recover. Elliott added two more field goals, sealing Philadelphia’s triumph.
“The Eagles deserved it,” Mahomes admitted. “Those early turnovers changed the game’s momentum, and they capitalized.”
The Chiefs’ three-peat hopes ended, but they remain the only back-to-back champions to reach this far. Mahomes reflected, “I didn’t meet my standard and must improve.”
