On May 26, a serious bus accident on Highway 70 East in Madison County, near Jackson, Tennessee, resulted in 39 people being injured, according to local authorities. The crash happened around 6:48 p.m. and was classified as a “mass casualty incident” by Madison County Fire Rescue. Emergency responders quickly arrived, transporting 27 injured individuals to hospitals, while others received treatment at the scene.
The Greyhound bus involved was traveling from Memphis to Nashville at the time of the accident. The company reported that 34 people were on board, including 32 passengers, one driver, and a relief driver. Thirty of those injured were taken to medical facilities, with most released shortly afterward. It remains unclear if the five others injured were passengers or involved in other vehicles.
Multiple agencies, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and MedCenter EMS, are actively investigating the cause of the collision. As of May 27, officials have not released additional information. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency crews to work safely.
Greyhound confirmed its cooperation with law enforcement and support for those affected by the crash. The company stated, “Our team is actively investigating the situation.” Madison County Fire Rescue expressed condolences and pledged ongoing emergency support. “Our thoughts are with all those affected,” their official statement read.
