Google is fully committed to artificial intelligence, both within the company and in its broader applications.
During the Q3 earnings call on Tuesday, CEO Sundar Pichai revealed that over 25% of new code at Google is now generated by AI. He noted that this integration of AI into coding is significantly enhancing productivity and efficiency across the organization. Once the AI generates the code, it undergoes thorough checks and reviews by employees.
“This allows our engineers to accomplish more and work faster,” Pichai explained. “I’m excited about our progress and the potential that lies ahead, and we remain focused on developing outstanding products.”
In February, Business Insider reported that Google had introduced a new internal AI model called “Goose,” designed to assist employees in coding and product development. Goose was reportedly trained using “25 years of engineering expertise at Google,” according to internal documents reviewed by Business Insider.
While this development may raise concerns among some employees about job security, others have noted that AI has already transformed their roles. Company leaders have previously assured staff that AI is not a direct threat to their jobs—at least for now—but the fact that AI accounts for over 25% of new code generated highlights the substantial advantages of advancing this technology.
