Elon Musk has endorsed Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, as the ideal candidate for Treasury Secretary under President-elect Donald Trump. Musk expressed his opinion on social media, stating that Lutnick would bring about meaningful change, contrasting him with Scott Bessent, the founder of Key Square Group, who is also considered a top contender for the role. Musk argued that Bessent represents a “business-as-usual” approach, whereas Lutnick would drive the changes conservatives desire for Trump’s second term.
Trump has yet to announce his official pick for Treasury Secretary, but the position is expected to be crucial given the central role economic issues played in his victory. Lutnick, who has known Trump for decades and hosted fundraisers for him, has been a part of Trump’s transition team. Meanwhile, Bessent, a macro hedge fund manager and key economic advisor to Trump during the campaign, has received praise from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who believes Bessent would be an excellent choice.
Musk emphasized the need for change, criticizing the current direction of the economy and the potential consequences of maintaining the status quo.
