Speaking to supporters in East Lansing, Harris vowed to turn the page on divisive politics and focus on the future. “We are not going back,” she declared, calling this election “one of the most consequential of our lifetime.” She reiterated her commitment to women’s reproductive rights, promising to sign legislation protecting these rights if passed by Congress.
However, during an event in Detroit, Harris declined to comment on California’s Prop 36, a measure that could impose stricter penalties for repeat offenders in shoplifting cases. This neutrality may attract criticism from both Trump supporters who see her as “soft on crime” and progressives hoping for a clear stance against stricter criminal justice measures.
Trump, meanwhile, spoke confidently of victory, encouraging voters in Kinston, North Carolina, to “vote, vote, vote.” He criticized the Biden administration’s response to Hurricane Helene, which devastated parts of North Carolina in September, and announced plans to impose tariffs on countries he claims have disadvantaged the U.S. economy.
At a Pennsylvania rally, Trump repeated unproven claims of voter fraud, stating that “2,600 ballots were filled out by the same hand.” Trump’s campaign has already taken legal action in Georgia, challenging alleged election irregularities.
As Election Day approaches, pollsters like FiveThirtyEight indicate a tight race, with Harris slightly ahead at 48% to Trump’s 47%. Both candidates are spending their final days focused on swing states, including Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, which are expected to be decisive.
